An appointed doctor will review your health status and provide professional advice on managing future exposure to ionising radiation. If any emerging health issues are identified, your risk assessment may be reviewed to ensure that all workplace risks remain effectively controlled.

What is Involved in an Ionising Radiation Medical?

During your Ionising Radiation Medical, the appointed doctor will assess your suitability to work with IR and review relevant aspects of your health and work history. This includes:

• The nature of your work involving ionising radiation, including work settings and types of sources used (sealed or unsealed).
• Your physical and mental fitness to safely work with radiation.
• Your medical history, focusing on any conditions relevant to your exposure risk.
• Your occupational history, including previous exposure to radiation or other workplace hazards.

A clinical examination may also be performed, along with any investigations the doctor considers appropriate.

In certain cases, remote IRR17 medicals may be available for follow-up assessments (not for initial appointments). This option can be discussed when booking your medical.
