If you drive or plan to drive a motorhome over 3.5 tonnes, you’ll need to meet the DVLA Group 2 medical standards.
- Drivers who passed their test before 1 January 1997 automatically have C1 entitlement but must undergo a medical examination from age 70 to renew it every three years.
- Drivers who passed after 1997 are required to complete a C1 medical to obtain a C1 provisional licence, which allows training and testing to drive heavier motorhomes.
Our experienced doctors carry out motorhome driver medicals for new applicants and renewals across the UK.
What Happens During a Motorhome Driver Medical?
During your appointment, our doctor will confirm your identity and perform a comprehensive medical assessment.
Your medical will include:
- A full review of your medical history
- A physical health examination
- A blood pressure check in line with DVLA requirements
- A vision test using a DVLA-approved Snellen chart
This ensures you are medically fit to drive large motorhomes safely and legally.
What to Bring to Your Appointment
Please bring the following items to your motorhome driver’s medical:
- D4 Medical Form – [Download here] or Medical Form Specific to your company
- Photo ID (passport or driving licence)
- Driving glasses or contact lenses, along with your latest prescription
